Ultimate Salty but Sweet Hot Chocolate Recipe

As we're heading into Winter and the days are getting colder, we all need that little pick me up to get us through. Possibly the mature freak shake, this hot beverage will warm you hard to toe, putting a spring in your step for the rest of the day.

Ingredients:

  • 40g of white milk, dark or white chocolate buttons

  • 150ml of milk

  • Salted caramel flavoured syrup

  • Mini marshmallows

  • Squirty cream

  • 1 salted caramel shortbread

  • 1 and a half milk chocolate flake

  • Salted caramel flavoured sauce

  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt

You will also need:

  • A tall glass with a handle or a large mug

  • A decorative plate or a slate

1. Heat up the milk until it is boiling hot by pouring it into a microwave proof glass jug and putting into the microwave for 5 minutes until it boils. Take it out half way through and stir.

2. Tip the chocolate into the jug with the milk and mix using a hand mixer. Once liquid, pour a quarter of it into a tall hot chocolate glass or mug and add the salted caramel flavoured syrup. Pour the rest of the liquid into the glass and top with mini marshmallows.

3. Place the glass on a decorative plate or slate along with the salted caramel shortbread. Add a strip of squiry cream diagonal across the short bread, adding cream and more marshmallows to the top of the hot chocolate as well.

4. To make the sea salt sprinkle, separate half of the chocolate flake with your fingers or a spoon and mix with the sea salt. Sprinkle on top of the hot chocolate and the shortbread.

5. Add the flake to the top of the hot chocolate, and finish off by squeezing the salted caramel sauce all over the hot chocolate and shortbread.
