We all love a sweet treat from time to time, but these calorie laden desserts truly do bring all the boys to the yard, and pretty much everyone else.
Founded in Australia's capital, Canberra by Patissez in the summer of 2015, these weird creations have travelled worldwide and their conquering isn't stopping anytime soon. These shakes are usually made by pouring milkshake into a jar, topping it with all sorts of cakes and sweets. Yet according to Patissez, it 'starts off with a theme - its not about buying a myriad of sweets and shoving it into the top of a mason jar, it has to have a purpose'.

Plenty of cafes and eateries that have invested in the 'Freakshake' base each one of their creations on a theme, for example speciality Halloween and Christmas ones, or general themes like cherry bakewell or salted caramel. The craze has gone as far as Warner Bros. and Maxwells of Covent Garden teaming up to create limited edition themed shakes based on the popular Netflix series Riverdale for the release of series one on DVD back in August of this year. Each character from the show has their individual flavoured and styled shake; 'The Bubblegum Chum' is based on the character Betty, 'The All-American Joke', based on Archie and 'The Fall From Grace' which represents Veronica. Maxwells have collaborated with many big names to produce amazing 'Freakshakes', more recently Made in Chelsea's Jamie Lang to produce the Eton Mess.
Whilst these magnificent delights are every bit the sweet dream, they also have their shocking appearance to thank for their international popularity. Lots of cafes including Patissez have become internet sensations following the 'Freakshake' takeover with users of the social media giants; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram plastering their accounts with aesthetic pictures of their potential heart attacks in a jar.
I wonder if the next foodie craze will make the world go as insane...? It's a waiting game, that's for sure, and while we wait lets have a blood sugar disaster shall we?
